The five best FPL tips for Gameweek 31

Arsenal and Liverpool assets are in high demand ahead of appealing midweek home fixtures

Another Fantasy Premier League deadline is upon us with a full round of midweek action taking place in the top flight.

If you are currently light on Arsenal and Liverpool coverage going into Gameweek 31 you may want to rectify that as they are each up against relegation candidates: Luton head to the Emirates on Wednesday with Sheffield United travelling to Anfield 24 hours later.

Both clubs are worth investing in for the longer term too as they are among seven teams playing twice in Gameweek 34 along with Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Everton, Sheffield United and Wolves.

The Gameweek 31 deadline is at 6pm on Tuesday 2 April.

i‘s top scorers in Gameweek 30

  • Cole Palmer – 15 points vs Burnley: Chelsea’s MVP scored his 12th and 13th Premier League goals of the season during his side’s disappointing draw against 10-man Burnley. Make the most of having him as a sub-£6m option now as his price tag is going to soar next season.
  • Son-Heung-min – 10 points vs Luton: The Spurs skipper left it late, netting in the 86th minute to secure a vital three points for his side. Son was hugely unfortunate to not register a goal before that, hitting both posts with one shot, but did at least claim three bonus points for his backers.
  • Anthony Gordon – 8 points vs West Ham: The England newcomer earned a hat-trick of assists – two of which were fouls that drew penalties – but spoiled his afternoon by stupidly getting sent off in injury time which drastically reduced his total number of FPL points.

Luis Diaz (Liverpool)

With Liverpool lacking key personnel in defence and consequently looking leakier at the back than usual, it seems sensible to target their attackers when building towards Gameweek 34.

While Mo Salah is clearly the best Liverpool asset to own, Luis Diaz is arguably second in the pecking order, above Darwin Nunez, based on his recent form.

The Colombian scored Liverpool’s equaliser against Brighton on Sunday with an instinctive toe-poked finish and had the ball in the net for a second time only to be denied by VAR for a marginal offside.

Even despite that disallowed effort, a return of four goals and three assists in his last eight matches is proof of his sky-high confidence.

Ben White (Arsenal)

England’s loss is evidently Arsenal’s gain. Ben White has barely put a foot wrong since joining Arsenal in 2021 but his form since the turn of this year has been particularly good.

White delivered another strong performance during Arsenal’s draw against City and looks more accomplished as an attack-minded right back with each passing week.

The 26-year-old has already contributed towards seven goals (two goals, five assists) this campaign which is as many as he managed in the whole of last season.

Most FPL managers already have one of Gabriel Magalhaes or William Saliba in their teams but it is a testament to White’s form that he has outscored both in FPL in 2023-24.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

Plenty of FPL managers will be on the lookout for an Ollie Watkins replacement after the Aston Villa frontman went off with a suspected hamstring injury on Saturday and Alexander Isak has positioned himself at the front of the queue.

The Newcastle forward delivered a season’s best 15 points in the thrilling comeback win over West Ham in Gameweek 30 after converting two penalties and setting up Harvey Barnes to score with a defence-splitting through ball.

Isak has been in clinical form for a while now having netted seven Premier League goals in his last eight matches, a run that has perhaps been overlooked due to the fact he spent a chunk of time injured between those appearances.

The Swede has been particularly deadly in home games, combining nine goals with an assist in 10 fixtures at St James’ Park ahead of Everton’s visit.

Price: £7.6m Points: 110 Gameweek 31 fixture: Everton (h)

Kai Havertz (Arsenal)

Kai Havertz’s goalscoring run ended at the Etihad but that shouldn’t dissuade you from considering him this week considering the German was starved of service throughout Arsenal’s stalemate with City.

Prior to Easter weekend, Havertz had provided four goals and three assists in his last four Premier League appearances, yielding three double-digit hauls in FPL.

Even despite his blank in Gameweek 30, Havertz has accumulated more FPL points (50) over the last five gameweeks than any other player.

He’ll be hoping to get back on the goalscoring trail on Wednesday when Arsenal face statistically the worst defence away from home in the division. Luton have conceded 36 goals on their travels so far, which is four more than any other team.

Price: £7.2m Points: 113 Gameweek 31 fixture: Luton (h)

Conor Bradley (Liverpool)

Liverpool have found keeping clean sheets incredibly difficult recently which has negatively affected Conor Bradley’s FPL scores. The right-back has blanked in four of his last five appearances after registering 29 points in his first two games.

His FPL bosses can count themselves unlucky at not getting more attacking returns based on the underlying data, though. Bradley created four chances during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Brighton, a total only bettered on the pitch by Alexis Mac Allister (four).

Furthermore, since coming into the side in Gameweek 21, Bradley ranks joint-top for shots (12) and second for chances created (18) among all defenders in the division.

Liverpool’s next opponents Sheffield United have scored fewer away goals (12) than any other Premier League side this season and conceded the second-most (32) which boosts Bradley’s points potential at both ends of the pitch.
